Basement extension and modifications to residential property near Clapham Common.
The basement extension to this classic two storey end of terrace house required reinforced concrete walls working compositely with contiguous piles, underpinning to the party wall and a raft slab foundation. In order to create a more open plan, modifications to the superstructure involved the demolition of some key shear walls, necessitating the design and installation of two steel portal frames to provide stability to the building. The remainder of the structural modifications to the superstructure, including the beam supports to the existing chimney flues, is steel and timber framing.
