University College School –
The Lodge
Client: University College School
Architect: Ed Toovey Architects

The project involved the refurbishment of the existing Grade II listed Lodge building and converting it into offices, together with the addition of a new single storey horizontal extension to increase the office spaces of the Lodge.

The new Extension was designed with traditional load bearing cavity masonry walls supporting a timber joisted flat roof, with steel beams and trimmers around rooflights. Due to the soil conditions, the ground floor slab was designed as a suspended in-situ flat slab bearing on piles, with edge thickenings to support the perimeter walls. Additional steel frames were designed to the front to support a glazed entranced area.
