This combined commercial and residential development required the demoltion of a two storey masonry building with the retention of the existing brickwork basement and the construction of a new six storey reinforced concrete framed structure above this.
The floors were designed as flat slabs using Finite Element Analysis software in order to maximize the floor to ceiling heights. The new structure was built of piled foundations located within and around the retained basement structure. Special attention was paid to the joints between the new and existing structure to allow for differential settlement of the new concrete frame.
