Everyman Cinema, Mailbox
Birmingham
Client: Everyman
Architect: Fusion Architects
This project comprised the redevelopment of the original Mailbox, previously the location of a railway goods yard with canal wharves off the Worcester and Birmingham canal leading to Gas Street Basin, the site was the location of the Royal Mail's main sorting office building for Birmingham (hence its current name) which was completed in 1970.
Pringuer-James Consulting Engineers have undertaken the design for a new cinema complex within the Mailbox Shopping Complex for Everyman. The development includes the formation of 3 new theatres on 2 different levels with tiered seating and mezzanine levels.
The existing main steels were strengthened to accommodate the new theatre concrete floating floors and acoustic ceilings. All the mezzanine levels were constructed with steel columns and beams with timber joist infill.
