Architect: Matthew Heywood Architecture

This project involved the renovation of a Georgian end-terrace house in Kensington. This included the construction of a new open plan basement below ground level which extends beneath the garden to the rear of the property. This required the construction a reinforced concrete raft slab foundation and lining walls and mass concrete underpinning of the existing foundations. The underpinning presented its own challenges and required careful planning due to the location of the foundations of a seven storey mansion block adjacent to the property.

The project also involved the creation of a large open plan living area at ground floor level as well as further alterations to the upper storeys. This required the construction of a steel moment frame structure to replace the demolished load bearing walls at ground floor level and above.
